How Eczema, Love, and Legacy Sparked the Start of JAK’s Essentials

Let me tell you a little story. This business didn’t start with a plan. It didn’t come from some business degree, a fancy investor pitch, or a Pinterest vision board.

It started with my babies. It started with frustration. And it started with love.

Before JAK’s Essentials became what it is today—handcrafted skincare, holistic spa retreats, glow-up bundles, and self-care coaching—it was just me in my kitchen, whipping butters and boiling herbs because I needed a solution that the store shelves & prescriptions weren’t giving me.

✨ The Struggle Was Real (And Personal)

I’m a mama. My three kids—Jalen, Ashod, and Kay’Leigh—each had their own skin issues growing up. Eczema, hypersensitivity, reactions to every lotion, cream, and over-the-counter “solution” I tried.

And if you’ve ever had a child scream in discomfort from a product you applied thinking it would help... whew. That kind of helplessness hits deep.

I couldn’t keep trusting products that didn’t respect their skin. I couldn’t keep buying brands that claimed to be “gentle” but were full of chemicals I couldn’t even pronounce.

So I started making my own.

✨ From Kitchen Experiments to Certified Expertise

Now I’m not the kind of woman who plays with people’s skin. So once I decided I was going to create products for my babies, I took it seriously.

I dove all the way in.

📜 Over 27 certifications later—including natural skincare and haircare formulation, aromatherapy, herbalism, and holistic healthcare—I was finally creating products with both heart and science.

I learned how to formulate safely. I understood what ingredients did on a cellular level. I studied skin types, healing herbs, and ancestral traditions.

And through that process... I started healing my kids’ skin LITERALLY. Then my friends asked me to make some for them. Then friends of friends. And before I knew it—I was holding something that wasn’t just a side hustle...It was legacy.

✨ Why I Named It “JAK’s Essentials”

The name is simple: Jalen Ashod Kay’Leigh

They’re the reason for everything. They were my why when no one was buying, when I was filling jars by hand at 2AM, and when I was second-guessing if anyone would care.

This brand is more than skincare. It’s a reflection of what I want my children—and yours—to know: That we deserve care. We deserve products that were made with our skin, our sensitivities, and our stories in mind.

I know there are a lot of skincare brands out here. I know it’s easy to get overwhelmed by what’s “natural,” “clean,” or “luxury.”

But this right here? It’s different. Because I’m not in this to follow trends—I’m in this to build trust.

What started as skincare turned into self-care. What turned into self-care became sisterhood. What became sisterhood became healing—for more than just the skin.

Now, we’re not just helping people glow—we’re helping them slow down, reset, and remember who they are.

We’ve expanded into:

• Holistic spa retreats for rest, reconnection, and healing

• Self-care coaching + speaking to help women get back to themselves

• Books + journals to support emotional and spiritual reflection

Every single thing we offer was built with intention—and that intention started right here: in my home, with my kids, and a deep need for something better.

I don’t care how big this brand gets—I’ll never stop telling this story.

Because the truth is: There’s a woman out there right now with a baby struggling with eczema. A woman burnt out from putting everyone else first. A woman who hasn’t felt soft, sexy, or seen in years.
